Mecum vs Barrett Jackson
Ok, I dvr’d all of Mecum in Kissimee and Barret in Scottsdale. Mecum ran 3500 cars, 10% being Corvettes. A lot of vwry special Vettes, in addition to the normal fare. Plus Shelby’s, and a lot of high end exoticts. Very impresed with the lineup. The ringmen were true show people.
Now on to Barrett. The first hour was nothing more than “not so old” pickups, a VW Westfalia and a few Mopars. A few run of the mill Mustangs and nothing exciting. Average prices were sub 20K
Barrett just doesn’t seem to have the razzle dazzle of Mecum. I know their stuff is no-reserve, but I enjoyed seeing Dana and Frank Mecum out rousting the bidders, getting the extra bucks, and cutting deals.
Still have a ton of hours of Barrett to watch. Hope it gets better.

DVR’d both as well. Mecum is interesting with a lot of cars not selling. Barrett has a more upscale look to it as it builds up to Friday and Saturday which I’m currently watching. Besides some crazy cars that Mecum may have it seems like Barrett pulls stronger numbers except in the beginning of the week and Sunday. It’s almost like you can buy something at Mecum and sell at Barrett ( depending on day and time slot). They both do a great job and I enjoy watching Dana Mecum getting involved with buyers and sellers. I’m only comparing Kissimmee vs Scottsdale not their other auctions. It’s amazing the amount cars these auction houses turn over.
I've sold one car at auction, Mecum, Indianapolis in 2018 and all I can say is if I tried to make a living buying and selling cars at auction, I'd be drinking Pepto Bismol like it was kool-aid. Buyers are the key as you need more than one person who wants your car, or it will sell really cheap. I don't have the gut to handle the financial ups and downs that happen in mere seconds as a car crosses the stage.
But i DO enjoy watching others!
