Car Shows, question
Ok, I have done a lot of work to my Vette and people always come up to me and ask about it and look at it. My question is, should I take it to a look car show and let ppl look at it. I isn't perfect and has paint flaws, window scrapes, etc. I know it isn't perfect, but ppl seem to enjoy looking at it. Should I avoid shows until I get it perfect? I don't want to compete, just let ppl see the car and talk about/enjoy vettes.

Heck yeah man, why not? I get compliments on my vette all of the time and isn't perfect. I am planning on doing some shows next year. Not competing but just letting everyone else enjoy it too. Remember, not everyone in the world if fortunate enough to own a vette! :yesnod:

Re: Car Shows, question (Black88Vette)
Mine is a daily driver and by far not perfect but every car show that I have ever gone to, people just seem to enjoy it. What most of us Vette owners feel is not perfect or just not good enough, is awesome to the average person on the street. Most of the people that come to the car shows just don't keep up their cars like a Vette owner does, so what we feel is a flaw to our car is over looked by 95% of the public.
So by all means, show you car. You will have a great time and meet lots of great car owners that believe in taking care of a car just like you do.

My dad and I (he has an '88) go monthly to a car so here in plant city and open our cars up for people to see. There are alot of real show cars there but you would be suprised at how many looks we get and my car is far from perfect. So, yes go and have fun you won't regret it.

By all means show that car! My '86 is not perfect and I have entered two shows so far. Both were great experiences and I got to meet some really nice people. The first show I entered was a Judged "Corvette Only" show and they took off points for dust in the fuel door area. I was totally not prepared for that but, nonetheless, I had a good time and picked up alot of tips and advice on how to prep a car for a show. The second show I entered was a classic car, muscle car show for all makes and was a much better experience for me. There was only one other C4 out of 150 cars and let me tell you, Corvettes get noticed. At least 20 people talked to me about my car and I got alot of compliments. I even took home a 2' trophy for sponsor's choice "Best of Show". Just give it a good cleaning, including the engine compartment and your'e good to go. Always remember, you have a Vette and you should be damn proud of it :D

Since owning my '96 (since July), I have never seen another group of owners that are so fanatic about maintaining the condition of their rides as are Corvette owners. (and that is a compliment).
It doesn't seem to matter if the Corvette is a '61 or an '01, they are all immaculate and look brand new. I can't possibly imagine how any "judge" can pick any one 'vette over another at one of these car shows.
I keep mine clean and drive it as often as weather permits. And I go to "cruises" rather than official car shows. A lot more relaxed atmosphere at a cruise. Your ride may not be "perfect" in your eyes, but I'd be willing to bet the lookers wouldn't mind at all, and probably wouldn't even notice.

Show that thing! I did about 6 car shows this year and took home three trophies. It is fun and rewarding even if you don't win anything. It's fun just to sit back and listen to the comments and talk to people about your car.
One caution though! Be prepared to ask people to...don't touch, please don't lean on the car, or get your kid outta my car, etc! While most people are very respectful, there are always a few who think they're wandering through a used car lot. I've seen people actually open the doors and get in someones car! :boxing

Re: Car Shows, question (Vette Ed)
Show for the fun of it. I always say that the C-4 and C-5 classes are so tough because there are so many of them and non are perfect to the owner but people love to look at them not pick them apart.

Re: Car Shows, question (dbwade36)
Truth is, at car shows, unless your car is something SUPER special (not that yours isn't, I mean like a 1953 'vette or something very rare) most people won't be looking at your paint. Now, that's not to say they won't notice drip marks and things like this if it's in the right light, but they won't nit-pick rockchips and things like this. At shows, windows are always down. No questions asked. Gotta show the interior. The engine compartment is the single most looked at part of any car at a show. If that's clean and the rest of the car is pretty clean, you won't have any worries. Besides, shows are about having fun, not winning a piece of plastic that says you won.

Show it. I do it for the fun of it. Not for the awards. This thing has 150k+ on it and it still attracts a lot of attention. It's even manage to bring home a 3rd place at one of the shows. (only Yellow and caught the judges attention)

it's fun! only got to take the vette to 2 so far, it's far from perfect, but it won a 5' "Ladie's Choice" trophy at the 2nd one. been going to them for years with various cars, it's great to get together with other enthusiasts.
