Default Key fob

Anyone know if I can activate my key fob only without activating the whole pke system? Just bought 94 coupe and the original owner disabled the system. Old fashioned guy preferred to use the door key to lock/unlock etc... Anyway I put new batteries in the fobs and they aren't working. Do I have to activate the whole system as I would prefer to just use the fobs manually?

You can't use the fobs manually (with a couple confusing exceptions). The system was designed as a passive system only. SO: the DOOR button does not lock any doors, the DOOR button will unlock the passenger door but not the drivers door. The HATCH button will unlock the hatch whenever the car has been programmed to accept the fob. Since you didn't mention doing the programming I would guess you haven't done that; instructions are in the owners manual. It's worth reading everything in the owners manual about the PKE system, it does not work as most people expect.

Oh, I just reread your post and it sounds like the fobs are the originals? If so, they may still be programmed (actually it is the car that gets programmed, not the fobs), and the system is just turned "off". Turning it "on" is easy and also covered in the owners manual, but manual is not an option. It's either on or off.

Thanks, I kinda figured as much. Now that I looked up the manual it does seem relatively easy. I just joined this site and I hope I'm replying correctly!!!

I assume you mean the light started blinking but didn't go steady on when you approached with the fobs. Did you try pressing the button to see if the hatch would unlock? Check that the new batteries are installed correct side up and are seated properly. Check the voltage they are putting out. If I remember correctly they need to produce 3.1 to work reliably. Try calling your local dealer and ask if they have the ability to check that the fobs are working ( they probably don't). If no luck there is an engineer you can send the fobs to to get them rebuilt. Don't throw them away, those things cost close to 150 each.

Thanks, I'm not overly concerned though, as I'm reading more and more about it even if I figure it out it's likely the batteries are gonna die frequently because the motion sensor is always looking for the host upon any movement. Though it's not like I'm gonna be using the car daily I kinda understand why the original owner chose the good old fashion key entry. LOL. Thanks for the quick response and advise though-- much appreciated!!!
