C4 Electrical Problem

I have a 1987 C4 with a starting problem. At times it fires up right away. Other times it just cranks real strong but will not start. I have good fuel pressure. When It won't start I'm not getting any spark. When it does not start with the key I have to compression start it. If I have to compression start it, sometimes it will start for a period of time then it won't start again. It might start up every time for a month or not start the next day. I have bypassed the ignition switch and my mechanic bought something for my car to bypassed the alarm system, it still won't start at times. Can anyone help me?

Have you taken an erasure to the resistor in the key?

I could be way off, but years ago I had a mid 80's firebird with a similar problem, it turned out to be the module in the distributor going out. Swapped out the module and it fixed it.
