I don't know if this one was actually driven for the race, but it does have some decals and signs that don't come with all 86s.
All 86 convertibles were designated as "Pace Cars" by Chevrolet to celebrate the return of the roadster.
The black vert that I restored was a "Pace Car". It had a dash emblem on the heater control that said Indy 500 and I believe that all of them came from the factory with the body decals.(Those could be dealer installed upon request by the customer.)
The center-bolt aluminum heads were standard on all convertibles in 86 and all cars starting in 87. The perimeter-bolt cast iron heads were on the coupes until they ran out of them, then they put on aluminum ones.
That garage sticker implies to me the car was part of the Race Event. Doubt it lead the race, rather may have been something like a support car but that's being generous.
Mine is a Pace Car also, doubt it was anywhere near the Indy Race Track. IMO it's overpriced even if it was on the Indy Track but that's just me.
I thought all the cars that actually paced the race were yellow. Does anyone know? And were there any low production colors? I have only seen 4 different colors. Yellow, red, black, and color above.
They came in several colors, I have a white one. The actual Pace cars for the track were yellow and Chuck Yeager was the driver that year. Everyone is correct that all 86 Convertibles were considered Pace Car replicas and came with the decals. The price I believe is high as well, it may have been used in the parades but not to pace the race.

If you mean any 86 color, they only painted 777 gold ones. I believe bronze (?) was a very low number',.
I was thinking convertibles but you are right not many gold convertibles made. I searched for pics and only saw four. If you had a copper one it could be a one of one. Something else I noticed very few cars had the decals applied. On the 78 pace car I’ve only seen a few without decals. My dad had a car dealer friend and he had a 78 pace car wrapped in plastic without decals. I like the decals on the cars but I guess times changed in 86.

And Bobby Rahal won the race. Another interesting fact is that the date on the decals is wrong as the '86 500 was rained out and was actually run the following weekend. I still have mine in the original box as one of those cool sorta mistakes. By mistake I mean the decals were right, the race was wrong! My original wheels look a lot better than the ones in those pictures though. Also has non stock mufflers with square outlets. My seat backs don't have that Indy logo, just "CORVETTE" embroidered like all the others. I'd love to know what the sequence number is. Mine was very near the end at 6895. I wonder how early that one is as the early pacers had the scissor hood prop on the passenger side and this one has a telescoping on the driver side.
As previously said, all the actual pace cars for the race were yellow. I had an '86 vert that I bought new, had the sticker box with it. It was dark red just like the one shown. Mine had a white top. Had the aluminum heads, supposedly saved a few pounds. They are nice cars, drove very well, just didn't have a lot of power like the later c4s.
I think that is a bit too much money for that one though, with that many miles. If it had 20k on it, maybe worth a little more, but for that you can get a later c4 with the better engine, better dash.
