Sanding 86
I'm in the middle ( closer to start actually
) of repainting my 95 convertible. This" how to "that I posted up top has been very helpful to me. It's a general write up for fiberglass and SMC. Take a look at the write up and see if any of it helps or makes sense. I've repainted a motorcycle and a motor home ( the motor home was aluminum, we scuffed the old paint and used single stage urethane) and was feeling a bit intimidated about tackling this corvette. So far I've sanded, sealed, primed, blocked and re-primed the fuel rail covers, air filter holder and cover, door belt moldings, and headlight buckets. Using the write up as reference has helped me a lot with my project. I am doing these few small pieces to get some experience for the big stuff. Good luck with your project, I hope mine will be painted and back together by the end of this month!! ?Attachment 48301650Attachment 48301649
She's been apart in the garage since September!!
A few things I learned:
Wax/grease remover is your friend!!! When you think you've done enough with it, do some more, trust me.
No matter how much light you think you have, you'll need more.
I had used an older Star brand gun for clear in the past, I upgraded to the newest HPE gun that Harborfreight has. It was less than 100$ with 20% off coupon, man , was that a great buy!!! It laid the clear on beautifully.
And ........ with small and light parts, make sure they are anchored down to something so they don't get blown around, there's a little extra sanding and another coat of clear coming this week for a few small parts. Ugh

One of the fuel rail covers after the white was put down

Same cover in the sun after the green. No color sanding.

Top of the headlight bezel.
