Over the weekend, I was using a floor jack and an adapter to lift the car by the rear differential of my 1995 convertible - using the same method I have used several times! Accepting full responsibility for operator error the car slipped off the raised jack and damaged the rear cross-member. - both rear tires were off the floor about 4". I was not in any danger as i was keeping all body parts out of harms way. I certainly can't attache the spare tire to the cross-member now but I am worried about other concerns of what might be affected by the damaged cross-member. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated! (just so you know it won't be necessary to tell me what a moron I am - I knew better before I did it!!!) I hope you can see the photo - this is only my second post on the forum. Thanks to all

Reason: Misspelled word
Sorry about your situation. Is your spare tire worthy of being a spare any more? I have not replaced my spare tire and carrier for that reason alone.
The only thing I can think of is taking it to an alignment shop and see if there is any issue in the rear. If you need any measurements or anything like that, I'd be happy to help. I also have a '95.
I had the spare tire and the hardware off the cross-member with the incident occurred so they aren't damaged.
I was using an adapter - I believe it is called a Jack-a-vette but I didn't have it fastened to the floor jack. I am in no way blaming the incident on the adapter or the jack - it has worked great in several on occasions - as noted in previously I own this screw up.
I didn't mean were they damaged. I meant, due to age is the tire worth using any more? On my car, my spare is too old and crusty, so I don't bother with it.
Sorry, misunderstood. I bought the car two years ago and I dropped the spare tire and carrier off the car to clean them. The spare is the original tire, still has the sequence number written on it with a marker. The tire was flat, I took it to a shop and they sealed the bead and aired it up. It still has air in it after almost 2 years!! I don't think I will ever use it though!
