Not what you think. Man with corvette seeking Massachusetts corvette mechanic. Now that we've sold our old Westboro house and completed the move into our new digs in Medford, I have a few $$ to spend fixing up my daily drive (92 auto, 96Kmiles). Since I need work in several areas of the car, I'm hoping that some of the New England crowd can suggest a competent, reliable, honest mechanic.
Areas in need of work include: Front suspension/steering. The gearbox is worn, and I can wiggle the front wheels with car on a hoist. It's not the ball joints. It's undoubtedly time to replace the shocks. I was told that I should put in a whole new front suspension, but I don't trust the mechanic who said that. Also, I'd like to upgrade front brakes to C5-style, and look into changing the rear gear ratio from 2.59 to 3.54. Is there anybody out there who can do this without ripping me off? Please let me know who you trust to work on your car (when you don't do it yourself). TIA.

Re: MWC seeking MCM... (Mervz)
Ken ( L98terror ) has done those mods for people.
I'd do it, but I don't have a garage :cry
The rack & pinion will swap out easy enough, as will the shocks.
If you have the pumpkin ( diff ) that's not too bad.
You need a press for the bushings.
It's a '92. in 1994, it took a hard hit on the driver's front corner, enough to total the car. A guy who works at a parts shop picked it up from the insurance company and spent 6 months fixing it up. He kept it for 6 years after that, putting only about 8K miles/year. I've put ~30K miles on the car since July last year. Probably something in the front end took a while to wear out. I've been told it's the steering gear that has excessive play. It handles OK, but I'm concerned that I'll wear out my new tires too fast unless I fix it. Besides, I want to take this opportunity to change the gears! :smash:
Couple quick things, !st I lost your #, 2nd I have a dana 36 carrier here, call Pat a superier automotive (Ask Fastguy for the number) and have decide if you want to have him buy the gears for you or if you want to get them. anyways I'll let you use the carrier so the gears can be done before I touch the car. Should save you a couple days.
I'm thinking of the 1st week in Dec. maybe you can drop the car off Monday and I'll do the work Tues, Wed & Thurs.
Did you order the brake kit yet? I'll check on a streering rack on tuesday
You can call me on my cell at 508-769-9226. I usually have the ringer turned to mute during weekdays so it doesn't go off in meetings. Leave a message and I'll return your call.
I'll give Pat a call as soon as I can reach Fastguy. I'm fine with Pat at Superior buying the gears for me. I want 3.54 or 3.55's. I'll need the speedo adjust kit, too.
I'll order the brake kit. I've seen both the GS and the C5 brakes recommended. I don't drive autocross, so I don't need the very best brakes, just something to reliably stop fast when needed. What brakes would you suggest? I'm hoping to change just the front set if possible.

Get the GS kit. The C5 won't fit under your stock rim. :yesnod:
