Default Rear hatch removal

1989 coupe

removing rear hatch seems straight forward, but are there any little secrets to watch out for or to make it easier?

Just took mine off the other day. Remove the halo trim, then dig thru some rubber tar type sealer to get to the nuts. Remove the four nuts, unhook the lift struts and just lift it off. Best to use two people for the size of it, Id hate to drop one. Mine had a little sealer under the brackets where the bolts are that mount to the top, I used a putty knife with some tape on it to break the seal. didn't wanna come off at first. Ive got an 85, so no third brake light, you probably will have to unhook a harness, which I would guess would be under the halo as well

Actually it would be a good time to put all new bulbs in that damn light as it is a PITA with the hatch attached.
