Default Fuel pump issue

On my 1990 A4 I had a problem with starting last week. This car is fairly new to me so I am still sorting things out. Car runs well (PO put a lot of money in the engine) and has a new fuel pump. Started as it always does and I drove it out of the garage into the driveway, shut it off and parked in the sun (not something we often see here in the NW) for 4 hours. Go out to start it and it does not start. Did not hear the fuel pump running as it usually does. Pushed it back into the garage, go to start working on it a couple of days later and it starts right up with pump sounding as it always does. Ran great.
I hate intermittent problems, much easier to troubleshoot if it had stayed not starting. I have FSM and Parts catalogs so I could figure it out if it did not work. Any suggestions from someone who has seen this before?

Grounding issue was my first thought and cleaning all the grounds is on my list of maintenance items to be completed. I just thought someone may have experienced something similar and had it turn out to be something out of the ordinary.
