I'm replacing the console carpet in my 87, starting with the driver's side (where a tear developed).
It *looks* like I'll need to remove the seat to have room to work near the rear of the console, but maybe someone who's had experience with replacing the console carpet will tell me I don't.
With the seat all the way back, it's pretty tight to the carpet.
I found an old thread that says I might need some special adhesive (likely from Mid America), which I hadn't considered, so I'm not likely to tackle this job this weekend. Since the car is 30+ years old, I'm guessing I'll need some new adhesive.
I removed the seat. You _might_ be able to do the job without removing the seat, but it's much easier with the seat out. Removing the seat isn't difficult. Pop the bottom cushion off, and remove 4 bolts.
You can find carpet adhesive in spray cans that will do the job just fine.
Indeed the seat is no biggie to remove and it will allow freedom to do the carpet properly.
Plus you can then really clean the old carpet so it matches the new.
