Black Factory paint...
Like an idiot (never much question! :D ), I did it over again...this time with the "Big 3" from 3M. Turned on the tube light and....
Let's just forget about florescent lighting and dark colored Vettes.
A buddy just bought a brand new black Z06. I had him over...even let him park in my heated, carpeted garage. (under the "light")
When he saw all the scratches and swirls in his 500 mile paint he was upset and wondered what the warranty provisions were concerning a bogus paint job.
I swapped places in the garage with his Z and my ZR1. He had already said he wanted his finish to look like mine.....you got it! Switched on the light and made another believer. Just leave off the stupid light!
Seriously, short of wet-sanding, is there anything out there to perfect the black Vette finish?
I can just see all the "Black Sheep" buffing away this weekend.
Black is beautiful but not without much care.
Any secrets to reveal. Good weekend, everyone!!! BC :hat
Other than that, you could try a light glaze applied either by hand or machine. Consult an automotive paint supply shop. You'll also have to start over with the Zaino if you do that.
Jerry Watts in BWG had told me long ago what Chevy goes through with the year change black paint formulation.
The ZR1 line gets the same paint formula. The '92 has more blue in the black thus does not shed the light rays from florescent tubes as well as the later years' black (more brown than blue). Thus, imperfections never seen in "normal" lighting jump out at you in the florospectrum.
Ever hear that a drop of black in a can of white....makes it whiter?
Yeah, I heard it too...probably in the same bar.
I'll post some pix when I figure out how. Thanks again! BC
In fact, my wife was just asking me if I knew what happened to her favorite Egyptian cotton Hilfiger towels. (lol)
I told her I was "dusting off my consoles" and that I would put them in the wash later. Hmmmmm.
You're right though....polyester thread in some "would be- cotton" towels scratch the livin' daylights out of black and/or ruby red.
I did finish off with a light coat of Zymol...not only because it smells so good but really leaves the finish moisturized...perfect for the 4 month hibernation coming.
Thanks again. Show me some pix of your '92!!! BC
