Default Upgrading climate control

Completely random thought. My 95 has the standard climate control, AC, buttons to control fan speed, select which airflow etc. I looked at a similar C4 with the upgraded climate module, setting the temperature, a display for outside temperature etc. They APPEARED to be the same size (the modules). Has anyone ever completed or even contemplated making the switch? My friend said once the unit is out, you can simply plug in the new module and the connectors in the back will plug right in. Vualla! (Or however you spell it). Am I way off base for even thinking this might be possible or is it do-able?

Many thanks,

Default C68 Electronic HVAC

Anything is possible ! But be careful what you wish for 😂 I have the electronic unit you are discussing it is called C68 . There is a head unit with all the controls that go to a control unit that is way under drivers side dash that works off of vacuum that has vacuum manifolds that process commands from the head unit that then goes to open and close defrost door, heat door, mix , or vent for A/C . The head unit is unavailable to order new, discontinued. But there is a company that will rebuild and almost all the Aftermarket companies for Corvette have a refurbished w/Core they also offer a tutorial on how to take head apart and rebuild because the heads are going bad the contacts are getting dirty or the circuit boards are having issues so not sending proper commands to the control unit which also has its issues with collapsed vacuum connections and it is NO joke to get to the unit up under dash let alone the 5 different colored vacuum line behind dash there are pics of entire dash removed in order to repair these issues ! I am in process of chasing down an issue right now my HVAC is in default mode right now A/C blowing floor and defroster so I have been reading a lot of old threads that are so helpful I’ wish I had the cable open and closing! But if you want to still convert you will need more than unplugging your head unit and plugging the digital head unit I would think you would have to remove entire dash to route all vacuum line and install vacuum assist doors ??? If you do a little research on the forum I think you would be way happier not messing with something that is not broken ! Just my opinion! GOOD LUCK WITH WHATEVER WAY YOU GO !!!
