After two yrs of mishaps/illnesses/family accidents I am finally getting my 1986 convertible on the road. Sat in a garage for 5 yrs after 2nd owner passed away and I bought it 3 yrs ago. Went thru the car and changed all filters, fluids etc and just finished the exhaust...(had a straight exhaust which I hated. due to loudness so I went back to stock)......
Problem I have is: When it is daylight the dash lights can barely be seen....In your expertise what causes this and how do I correct it without breaking the bank........
Other issue is passenger headlight motor decided to call it quits so I bought the entire motor rather than replace the bushings...do I have to remove the entire assembly to replace old with the new??????????????
A simple first step on the dim dash is to check all your ground points and clean them with a brass brush and DeOxIt. Do you have a service manual? You can find them there.
There is also a photo cell on the left side of the dash that controls the brightness for daylight and night time. How bright are they at night? You can hold your finger or put a piece of tape over it and see if the intensity of the light changes and also shine a flash light at it also to test for the daylight function. Might be the the sensor. Checking and cleaning the grounds is also good to do.
Good luck and keep us updated.
You should also update your profile with your car info so you don't have to remember to type it each time you have a question.

You can check out Batee.com website. Bryan can repair most issues, there's info on the site along with parts availability. You can get pretty much anything done here.
Good luck.
PS You have rim direction issues (swapped side for side).
The photocell has a plastic cover that can dull and block light(as if it were night). I don't remember if you can reach it from the front or you take the dash apart. use some wax and polish it clear again, I never liked my brightness during the day but since bypassed the dimmer and full light
is good day and night.
