Does anybody know where the reverse wire is under the dash? I have put a backup camera on and routed the wires up to the front so that the RCA jack goes into my radio. The reverse wire from the camera comes off the RCA jack and i want a short path to the revers wire so that I can hook that wire from the camera to the reverse wire so that then the reverse lights come on it will power the camera. I do not want to hook it to the reverse switch on the shifter if i do not have to. Any help would be great. Or tell me that i cannot do that and then easiest way to do this. Thank You This is a 1989 Convertible with a manual transmission.
If you have the FSM check 8A-112 for wiring diagram and 8A-201-12B for C209 connector for B/U wire location. The B/U lamp switch is an often 'non-operational' component for an M6. Do you have 'functional' B/U lamps 'NOW'?
I don't have a service manual. Anybody know where to access the reverse wire under the dash or in the cabin? Somewhere, the wires for the reverse lights must come through a harness back to the front of the car, but I don't know where.
Not sure about an ‘89, but on my ‘96, the reverse wire is the light green wire under passenger side dash. I used this as my trigger wire when the car is shifted into reverse. I have the LT4 and M6.
Incidentally, and I realize this is personal preference, but I ran my cameras (front and rear) to switched power so I could flip them on any time the car is on….I did it this way on both of my Vettes (and a couple of my other vehicles too).

Good luck with the install, hope all goes well.
Thanks. I've read a similar comment from someone else before so it's probably a good place for me to look. Thanks. I like your idea about the cameras able to be switched on manually. I hadn't given any thought to a front camera, but now that you mention it, that would be a good idea since you can't see the nose of the car. That would come in handy when you need to pull up very close to something.

Reason: grammer correction
Also, I pull my +12 off of the radio relay that the Bose systems have in them. I can only use the camera when my radio is on, my radio trips that relay, the relay powers the camera.

I looked at the picture. Nice mod! I really like that.

Exactly. I don't need it as I grew up in the years prior to cameras in vehicles, but it sure is convenient to punch a button when pulling into a parking spot with those curb stops and not have to change gears, and see where it is in relation to the nose of the car. When I had my first Vette about 15-16 years ago, it was another C4 and this was prior to cameras in cars, I used to have my bride hop out and tell me where the curb was...haha. So, seems like a no brainer to me.
Next on my list is adding a dashcam....the Kenwood head units I have, have another input for a dashcam and the controls and configuration are thru the head unit. Contemplating doing that, but haven't yet......

I grew up before camera's also, but this just makes things easier when you get older. In my younger years, it was completely unnecessary and even unthinkable to me when camera first came into use. Now that I'm older, I prefer relaxed comfort and style which is part of the reason for nice car rather than a rice burner. I have a nice dash cam already but it's an ad-on attachment to my radar system which it not tied to my stereo system. I have the latest model Escort Redline 360c (top of the line) with optional HD camera and bracket that attaches to the main radar which is where it also shares the same power source with no additional power source needed since it's essentially a piggy-back. For my stereo I have a Pioneer AVH-3500nex. (had the AVH-4500nex in my other car) it has blue tooth but i don't use it, because I have have the mounted had holder for my phone so I used the USB cable that plugs into the back of the stereo, this way I have both charge and connection to the stereo with all the options rather that blue tooth which would only provide data connection without charging. Also, I need the blue tooth to talk to the radar and attached camera to get all the features of that system. It gives me info in real-time such as an active radaring patrol cars, speed traps, traffic lights, and helicopters, wrecks and so much more. Also that camera and the radar has a gyro, gps and impact sensors. I can set the sensitivity,,, I hit so much as a bump it makes a recording the is stored in secure file that is not to be overwritten where the main looped live recordings are stored. So If a wreck happens or even so much a fender bender, it's on video and is even always recording audio (that others cameras don't). The camera has a very wide view and is high quality video and stills,,,,I like it so far. As far as the phone that plugs in, this give me full control and can make and answer hands free calls and I stream music from my server at home to my phone which is then played over the stereo since it's connect via usb data cable.can control all that via the touchscreen. I like the setup I had in my 87 that I'm doing the same with my 89 with the exception of the reverse wire tie-in problem because my 89 is manual trans instead of automatic like my 87. After I get that reverse wire figured out, then I just need to add a front bumper camera like you have.
