Hey guys, based on the mileage and time my car is due for a tune up. The shop recommend plugs, wires, cap and rotor. My question is should I be worried about messing w/the optispark if I get a new cap and rotor? I do not have any idling problems or other symptoms of a problematic opti. The car runs great. Would I be fine just replacing the spark plugs and wires? I'm concerned about messing with parts around the optispark. I just keep thinking "if it ain't broke dont fix it". Let me know what you guys think.
good thinking. no sense. I run Taylor spyro pros. decent price. nothing wrong with AC Delco either. have fun. you'll enjoy changing plugs and wires on an opti car. if you dont already know, remove the splash guards in wheel wells.
I'd change the injectors to some reman ones if they are stock just because I'd like them flowed and tested and WITHOUT any crud that has built up, change the O2 sensor that controls the fuel air mixture since it gets lazy and old. Plugs and wires. Flush brakes.
how many miles is on the car? 100K miles is the number to do plugs wires and opti. while doing the opti its a good time to do the water pump as well. also a coolant flush of the block and all NEW hoses is a great idea too.
The car has 122K miles on it. I've replaced just about everything else on the car over the years including transmission, starter, alternator, battery, belts, brake upgrade. I replaced the radiator hoses and thermostat just last year. When I first got the car I had a guy at a corvette specialty shop check it out and he told me the wires had definitely been replaced. I'm hoping to avoid messing with the opti and just do the wires and plugs. I've just heard stories about guys replacing optis that weren't really malfunctioning and then having problems later with the new unit. The car is a 95 forgot to mention that in the original post. I definitely want to do some work on the fuel system and components like aklim suggested.
Injectors, if they are Bosch, can be sent to FIC for cleaning and testing or just get a reman set. Fuel pump can be replaced with a kit from Racetronix. That should get rid of the pulsator.
The injectors on the 95 were of an improved design better able to cope with corn oil in our gas. Mine are still original at 136K.
My view these days is not to change the opti as a preventative maintenance item. It has become one of those "if not broken don't mess with it".

I agree with you as well. I just wanted to ask around and make sure that mad sense. Not to say I'm just waiting for stuff to break on the car till I fix it but just based on everything I've read my car runs great and I dont want to mess around with parts that dont need it.
