Hey guys, I've been a corvette guy for ever. C5 and up mainly. Looking to buy an older C4 to try to flip. Found this 84, which looks from pictures to be in decent shape. Maybe find a set of c5 wheels to upgrade the looks and park it at our shop to resell. Not looking to keep the car, or else id be in a LT1 C4. If I had to guess by the pictures, rotors looks newer-ish and the seats don't look bad.
What should I be looking for when buying the "cross fire" engine.
According to the ad, its been posted for 6 weeks. That should give you and idea how soft the C4 market is, even up north. $6K cad equals $4559 US. I guess that puts it in the range similar to what I've see listed down here. IMHO, if you are buying to keep, the price may be OK. If you are planning to flip and not be upside down, its at least $3000 too high. Following 84 sales on eBay, they range from a low of $500, to a high of $12,000 with best offer accepted (you can't see what that was). The average throwing out the $500 and the $12K was $3647 for 14 sales, all USD. I'd keep my money. Good luck.
I'm also in Canada. That car is at the top of it's price bracket as it is IMHO. I just bought this last week:
for 9 grand. It's an 88 convertible with the Z52 package. An 84 with the "crossfire" (205 hp) is stretched to it's max at 6 grand. If you get lucky, some kid my want to pay 7 or 8G, but you're going to be waiting a fairly long time for that particular pigeon....
As a "flip", I'd pass. Unless, as mentioned above, you get into it for 3-4 grand. Then maybe, just maybe, you can flip it for a g or two.....assuming you don't have to do any work to it that is....
*edit- just looked at kijiji Ontario for C4's. What are you guys putting in your water over there because your prices are nucking futz! Waaaay overpriced. For what most of those ads are asking, you'd get into a C5 (maybe even a C6) around here. If I ever want to sell my 88, I'm driving it to Ontario! Wow, just crazy prices for C4's....*

Exactly, that's why from what I'm seeing that's not an absolutely terrible deal. Your car is around 11g's-12g's here!
I'm guessing you are an older guy. Flipping C4's will be a real challenge and I would say pick up a craft hobby and sell them, that might be a better return. ZR1, GS, maybe collector. Anything else unless free probably not going to get much profit.

I've flipped a few C4s over the past 3+ years. It's a fun hobby, I make a few thousand per car, I get to enjoy different years of C4's (which I love C4s) and I get to bring some back to life (mainly cosmetically). With that said, you are making a mistake "investing" in an 84 Vette to flip. That is true for a few reasons:
1) The 84 is THE oldest, THE least expensive of the C4s.
2) The 84 is 35 years old - not a very big resale market looking for an 84
3) How much money can you really make on a 35 year old car - unless you are borderline stealing it
4) With the age of the car - it may need substantial repairs which cuts into your profit (Im guessing)
Please dont think Im trying to rain on your parade, I just want you to look at this "investment" from all angles. Good luck if you decide to invest & flip!!
If you want to flip it I'd hold out for a 6 speed. That might bring an interested buyer. Auto's are a dime a dozen unless they are really nice....sorry.

I'm thinking so, I have a soft spot for c5's cause my dad always had c5's when I was younger. I'll be 30 next year. But the c4 is the first corvette I remember my dad having. Had a 90 Zr1 in black. With c4's on an incline I think its a good time to buy one. The c4's have a coolness factor to me for some reason and I love the old school interiors on the <89's. I would buy an auto but a 6 speed is ideal.
