So I purchased a 1986 corvette as a project car to know more about cars but it looks like it’s a v6? Idk I only see three exhaust pipes on the headers on each side and I’m not sure if that’s normal or not since when I did my research it doesn’t seem like there’s such thing as a v6 corvette. Please help I am very confused.

The center exhaust ports are side by side thus it looks to be one pipe.
He's probably looking at the exhaust manifold heat shield. Gotta start learning somewhere!
Mr. Ranger, Your engine is called an L-98, and is distinctive because of the eight large intake manifold tubes on the top of the engine. Welcome to the Forum! Enjoy that nice 'vette! We like pictures!
The best way to learn about your new Corvette is to purchase a copy of the Factory Shop Manual (FSM) for your '86. They're a little expensive, but you'll find they are worth their weight in gold! Don't bother with the Haynes or Chiltons manuals. They are too generic and can lead you astray.

Yes there is a shield over the exhaust manifolds that covers the exhaust manifold. Easiest as suggested earlier is if in doubt, count the spark plugs. Yours may or may not look exactly like this one. I've got the aluminum heads, which you can tell by the hold downs centered on the valve covers, while the cast iron heads had perimeter bolts. Early coupes had cast iron, later had aluminum ones while all the convertibles had aluminum heads. Hope that helps.
Hey hcbph, ware did you get those plug wire heat cover thingies. P.S, sorry for the hijack.
Those came off Ebay. I had to cut the metal rings out of them so they'd slide only the plug wires - they're designed to slide onto new wires as they're being assembled.

Welcome! As other have stated, you may be misinterpreting the exhaust layout due to the arrangement of the heat shield. Would love to see pictures of your new 86! I have an 86 as well!
