I actually installed the same head unit, but no backup camera (was thinking about adding one though). I chose the Sony unit because of the finish, color and overall look once installed. I also like the fact it has a physical volume ****.
This pic isn't the best, pretty dark and some shadows making it look like there are gaps, but the fit in the opening is pretty much perfect.
I appreciate your write up on running the wire, will most definitely come in handy for me.
If I was going to do it over again, I would use 1/4" split wire loom, because that is all that is really needed for a 3/16" cable.
In the late C4's, with this head unit, you do not need to do any trimming inside the radio cavity. There is also plenty of room for all the wires.
I was getting a "Popping" noise through the speakers (I kept the Bose units). To get rid of the popping, Crutchfield sent me a pair of PAC SNI-1's.
They fixed the issue.
The speakers popped when changing input, when tuning FM channels, when tuning the car off. Very annoying. Took me hours to chase down a solution. I found the answer here on C/F.
I also found out where to wire in a switch so the antenna doesn't go up everytime you turn the car on, or switch the key to "accessory". Since I also bought an XM radio adapter, I won't listen to FM much, so I put the switch in the compartment behind the passenger seat, out of the way.
Mine does that as well and it is a little annoying. How are these wired up exactly? Just RCA from the Metra adapter (assuming this is what you used) then RCA to the rear of the head unit?

You mean the SNI-1's ? If so, yes, the speaker wires going into the pre-amp outlets, the RCA plugs. Plug the SNI-1's into the LR/FR and the corresponding wires from the Metra harness into the SNI-1's.
