Just wanted to share with you all about an issue my buddy with the 1990 is having. Last fall when he put the car away, it drove fine. This spring he was getting a wobble like the tires flat spotted from sitting so much (we have had crappy Corvette weather lately in the Akron, Ohio area). He replaced the tires and was still getting a shake around 70 like a tire out of balance.
I arranged for him to take it to a place with a Hunter road force machine but told him to make sure that they grabbed the wheels at 6 and 12 and at 3 and 9 and checked for movement.
It wasn't the tire. It is the rack and pinion failing. There is something wrong with it.
Moral of the story, it is not always a tire out of balance issue. Check your mechanics !!!!!
I rode in the car, it drove and steered just fine, the shake didn't show up until exactly 68 mph. Acted just like a balance issue.
Mine does that at exactly 53 MPH! I have chased this issue thinking it was tire or wheel related. I will check the rack and see what I find. I have been losing my mind over this cause I couldn't figure it out.
