Mostly Cardone. They last anywhere from about 5K to 50K, as I recall. It's a crap shoot.
286K is a lot of miles, too
I'm curious, because my 92 has an invented (supposedly much worse) opti and made it 130k on its own opti, I replaced that as PM and due to incorrectly diagnosing what truly was a Vats issue. You're a bit over double my mileage and have used WAY more of them than I have.
Really? Once you do the swap they just become a crank sensor, right? What failed?
I'm not sure what failed. It just started the classic intermittent engine stalling problem. I changed the Opti and the problem went away.
I'm not sure how many miles are on the latest Opti. I don't drive the C4 much anymore since I bought the C5.

Cam sensor, actually, but same general idea. After the LTCC conversion, a failure would likely be either the optical sensor or the shaft bearing. It's no longer a distributor after the LTCC is installed, so it won't need a rotor. There'll be no high voltage to distribute.
