has anyone here had a vette stolen. If so, how did they do it? Im very paranoid about my car in public places where i cant see my car when parked. I have an idea: disconnect battery every time i leave my car.
I haven't had a Vette stolen, but my father had his '82 Stingray stolen back in 82. Apparently they used a tow truck. Don't worry too much about your car being stolen. That just means you get a new Vette for free, less deductible. I'm more worried about vandals, myself. Maybe you should contract a midget to hide in the hatch with a shotgun? I know I wouldn't steal a car that had one of those....
Apparently, I hear a popular way to steal a C4 is to put a screwdriver through the gills in front of the door, puncture the battery which disables the VATS, and then...I don't know. Break in, jump it, and drive off?
Corvettes, as well as other sports cars, are the LEAST stolen cars nowadays. The most popular car in America is the most popular car stolen: The Honda Accord. Sold the most, stolen the most. See, when cars are stolen they are taken to a chop shop (and there are WAY more of these than would think) and they send out little groups of two to steal a car they need parts from. One lookout, one driver/lockpick. They are dropped off by someone else and drive the car back. Targets are normally Ford, Honda, and lower-end cars such as Kia and Geo.
Your Corvette's chance of being stolen is very small. For those that believe they don't steal high-end sports cars because they're flashy and easy to spot, that's not the case. Normally cars are stolen late at night, so the thing about them being too flashy doesn't REALLY apply. Second, cars are stolen because of demand, not because of their value. In the car theft business a Honda Accord is worth more than, for instance, a Lamborghini Diablo.
That's not to say that there isn't some druggie running around out there with a brick and a screwdriver stealing the first thing they see, but most thefts are done by gangs of car thieves.
