You should consider getting repair manual; factory service manuals are preferred. Also OBD1 scanner with correct cartridge for 82-84 CFI ( Crossfire Fuel Injection). EBay is a good place to look for both. Digital Volt Ohm Meter (DVOM) to diagnose.
I have another name for my OBD 1 scanner. I call it a "paper clip".
1. Paper clip jumper between ALCL pins A & B (upper right). ALCL connector is at bottom of dash, just to the right of your steering column.
2. Key On Engine Off.
3. Check Engine light will flash "12" code three times. ( 1 - 2 - - 1 - 2 - - 1 - 2)
4. Error codes will follow, with the same format. Count the flashes.
5. Report back to us.
I think it's been recommended before, but yes, you need an FSM.
