Fixed one thing broke another
I was throwing a code 36 and a code 54 on my 86 c4 base ver.. I knew the 36 was from a possible burn off relay so I bought a new one and installed it. I had the neg batt term off for at least 15 min so i knew all codes should be gone, and they were.
Started the motor and I had no CEL. Great I thought, to confirm I shut down and restarted several time with no CEL. I.m a happy camper.
So I get in there to secure the two relays down and the lid pops off the power relay just in back of the burn off relay, sparks jumped and a couple of wires started to melt, also the engine died and stopped. I got everything under control and put the lid back on the relay. Restarted the engine, it started right up but with a CEL. Shut down discoed the neg batt and waited about 10 minutes. All back together, started engine and had a CEL. Shut down and pulled codes the 36 was gone the 54 was gone but I have a code 33 now. Mass air flow sensor (signal voltage high) So what did I kill? I read the code 33 and had trouble making heads or tails out of it. Do I need to just replace the power relay or what?
I welcome all help as I'm a newbie when it comes to all this.
Tony
