Default Looking for C4 Convert stickshift driver

I have drag raced Vettes and driven several, but never had a street vette. Anyway. I live near ATL and I see many inexpensive high mileage vettes. I want a convertible stick. C4s seem plentiful and priced from 3-12k.

i would like one 8k or less. I also would like to avoid emissions testing so 1995org older is the age window.

I would rer Hugh morning mileage but better looks. I am very comfortable with mechanical work and engine trans diff rebuilding so I am sure I could solve that kind of issue if it came up.

I guess what I am looking for is the querks or nuances between the different models,s and years watch out for.

I saw a 87 convert that looked decent for 4900 and has a 4+3.

saw a 93 for 7500 and. They both looked well cared for.

Not looking for a show piece, decent overall car.

I race NHRA stick and superstock and race an LT4 five speed engine and a LT1 five speed in GT class ( in a Chevy Cavalier race car)

not looking to race one, but I may hop it up as I freshen things up.

Welcome, and nice race car. That looks like it'd be fun.

None of your questions are really convertible specific so hopefully you'll get some views from coupe drivers as well and they can pitch in. Since you're familiar with the LT engines I'd recommend you go with the later generation with that engine. I have no experience with the 4+3 personally but the ZF6 is generally regarded as one of the best transmissions Chevy ever used. From what I've read the overdrive unit on the 4+3 can be hard to get parts for if it goes out. General issues to watch for are oil leaks on the engine, and the opti gets a bad rep but you're familiar with that.

Convertible-specific differences really come down to the top and the loss of rigidity in the frame. As long as you have the factory x-brace installed underneath, that largely resolves the rigidity issue so just make sure it's there on whatever you get. Re: the top itself, the earlier convertibles had a plastic rear window while the later ones had glass. Pay close attention to the condition of the top, and especially the rear window. The glass windows have a tendency to come unglued with age.

I have a black 93 vert 6spd.

had a 6 point cage welded in. Dropped the x brace and rigidity is fine.

having a new top put on . Between the weatherstrip, rear window conversion kit, new top with glass window, and labor. Its gonna cost me $1500.

and thats with me re using the factory headliner
