Hello all
new owner and member.
Just bought a 84 cfi 1st vet.
92000 miles 3rd owner. Runs great. Has anyone ever put together an auto hood open.
What I want is the same result when I push the hatch release button. That is what I want the hood to do when I pull the release under dash. Is that crazy? Thoughts? Ideas?
Anything is doable and this will be difficult. You will need to fashion some form of heavy duty struts (the hood weights a lot and the angle of lift is not favorable) and mount them on both sides of the hood. Your HD strut will be "over sized" from the oem so you may not be able to use the same positioning on the frames. This reposition could create a problem getting access to your engine.
My opinion is that this will be a lot of work for little satisfaction. Since the car is new, spend your time and money on (known) upgrades that will give you a solid "bang for the buck."
That's a pneumatic cylinder with 300mm stroke for $30. You could toss your spare tire, mount a small compressor and run some line and fittings to the cylinder. Might as well add an air hose and chuck for easy tire-pressure top-off. The whole setup would probably weigh the same or less than the spare tire.
