Default Data logging software

Ive searched the internet but cant seem to find what I'm looking for. I have Torque pro and it records, but I dont want to go thru all the hoops it takes to get it to actual graphs. So what is everyone using? I want something that is simple and that I can data log and record. Its for obd2, 1996 LT4.

96 is an oddball

i use datacat to datalog and tunercat to change the tune.

love both. I use the 2 bar map conversion for boosted tuning.

no idea if they support the 96

I am considering buying ECM-Pro

http://westersgarage.eidnet.ca/ECM-Pro.html

you can download an evaluation copy

however it needs the interface cable/device such as the Jet package uses

Tunercat doesn't support OBD2 - Jet DST is the only one left on the market that will, and it's literally just the OBD2 version of Tunercat (Jet bought it from Tunercat). Datacat also will not work. On their page they specifically say it is for OBD1 only.

The cable that comes with Jet DST isn't just a cable - it also contains a hardware "key" of some sort to allow the software to work. It's their way of protecting the copyright, I guess. I'm not sure if it would work as a plain-jane ALDL cable or not. Let us know what you think of ECM-Pro if you try it.

I know that. That is why I said cable/device, not just cable. That is where the VIN nbrs have to be stored at also and, is the interface as you say.

Scanners have the interface built into them.

I have looked and looked and ECM-Pro is about all I can find. I suggest everyone that is interested download it and bring it up in evaluation mode, that way you can see what it looks like.

I looked for days. There is another version that I will have to find, but it is the same software, just rebranded to another company.

My other hobby got in the way or I could have gotten it this last week. I just spent $2500.00 on a new phaser rifle and scope. That money would have bought the last of the motor parts I need to finish the build, or done the transmission or or or on the Vette.

Just sharing, (and yes, forum police I know it is off topic) this is when I was breaking in the 800 yard BB gun. The one that is on the way is good to a mile.

This is 200 yards by the way. I had to stop to finalize the break-in procedure, it just needs move a little to the right.

Phaser rifle? I am intrigued, I have never heard of one other than what was used on Star Trek, do you have a picture?

The Jet cable with box, at least the newest one with the USB at the computer end also contains a serial to USB converter. The data coming from the ALDL connector is still serial data, and needs to be converted since Windows doesn't know how to deal with serial data coming into a USB port. The chipset in the Jet cable/box has Virtual COM port (VCP) drivers which cause the USB device to appear as an additional COM port available to the PC. Application software can access the USB device in the same way as it would access a standard COM port.
BUT, I believe that the terminal strip on the Jet box is tapped in pre-chipset and so should be the plain no-converted serial data.
I will give ECM-pro a try and see what happens.....

Phaser rifle?
I was being facetious. Look up Ruger Precision Rifle in .300 PRC. Then a Sightron SIII LR 8x32x56 with a MOA-H reticle on top.

That would have bought the injectors, the new harmonic balancer I want to get and all the gaskets and seals and still been able to buy most if not all the hard parts for the transmission build.

I divested myself of some of my hardware to purchase the above. Some more will get sold off to finish the car.

I will give ECM-pro a try and see what happens.....
If you decide to purchase it, please take some screen shots of the PIDs that are supported. The trial copy only has the ones activated for demo purposes.

the issue is the '96 is a one year only interface.

My scanner will datalog, however, I need to actually see how long and how many samples I can get. If it works out then I won't have to get ECM-Pro, but it was $1200.00 when we bought it years ago to keep an eye on our diesel pickup. It paid for itself as I caught that the injectors were starting to fail before the warranty ran out. Got 4 injectors installed, At the time they were $400+ each plus installation, so it definitely paid for itself.

So are all other 96 obd2 cars just as difficult to datalog?

An OTC Nemisys. Mine is only good up to 2010 though. I have not bought any newer cartridges as there has been no need.

There are used ones on eBay now. For older technology, it is a pretty decent machine. I have used it a lot on my older cars, my sons, etc.

It also does OBD I.
