yes it is the $100 cover type, Like you I couldn’t find my way to pay the $500 for the repop unit because I had other needs and I was building a daily driver so it didn't have to be perfect.

So here is my take, it’s plastic molded to fit over the top like a cap. The fit and shape is not bad and it looks decent as you can see in the picture. The big thing with this product is preparing the old dash. Removing the loose crap and creating a good bonding surface.
I’m a bit of a creative problem solver so after I brushed off the loose stuff I got a can of spray foam to fill the big cracks then cut and shaped the foam to smooth the surface. Then I used marine grade silicone adhesive to bond the cap to the dash.

Initially my result was good but these cars are like terrariums and the dash takes a beating from the sun so I developed a small distortion where it didn’t bond well. It doesn’t bother me but it could have been prevented. In retrospect I would use a combination of 3m tape and ice the thing like a cake with the adhesive. LOL use clamps and boards to sandwich the thing to evenly distribute the pressure.

all that said... I would opt for a new dash if I was restoring it or if I wanted something perfect.

Thanks! that’s good to know. It’s likely I will end up buying one in the future.

good idea to go with maco for the paint. Looks like a good job, now lets hope it stays on the car. You saved a bunch of money, I turned my 86 over to a friend for paint in his shop. $4,500 bucks later I drove it home. Good job your doing.,.

thanks. It helped that I did a lot of the sanding which reduced a lot of the prep work they needed to do. Its far from perfect and the fact is I was hoping to get 5 years out of it figuring if I end up liking the car I’ll treat it to something better. So far it’s been 2 years and the paint held up okay. It’s stays outside no cover. The damage on the nose was the result of someone backing in to me. I have some chips from parking in lots But all that said it looks way better than when I got it.

Default Hoover

The front end on the Vette is like a vacuum cleaner sucking everything up on the road and jamming it between the condenser and radiator. LOL

You can put a screen underneath to stop the leaves from getting in. Do a forum search to find out how.

Default AC pull let’s get at er

Had to take a break because of a planned eye surgery but I’m back and better than before. Time to pick where I left off and pull that AC setup. Pitter patter let’s get at er.

Default Power steering pump and bracket removal

with the steering pump and bracket removed I can focus on the fuel lines, remaining AIR emissions line, vacuum lines and electrical connections.

Default Intermediate steering shaft, tensioner and bracket on deck.

Chugging along on this lil 88.
next up I pulled the remaining AIR lines, Tensioner, AC/tensioner bracket, lower radiator and heater hoses. Lastly the intermediate steering shaft.

Everything is so tight! They engineered a hole in the bracket to route a heater house. LOL
had to pull the tensioner off first then disconnect the heater hose. But you can’t pull that out because it’s T’es an connect to a line that runs under the engine. With the hose disconnect I loosened the nuts and bolts holding the bracket then I disconnected the fuel lines and shimmied it out around the hose and fuel lines. Dang! I would hate to have to replace a lower rad hose in this thing if it was all together. LOL

next up disconnect remaining electrical and vacuum.

Default Bye bye braces and exhaust

I decided to remove the exhaust and dean braces to help facilitate separation and provide access to the shifter.

removing the whole driveline to rebuild everything actually I’m probably not going to rebuild the DN. I’ve decided to replace it with a TKO 5 speed.
