Does anyone know if this part is available? 89 C4. Part missing on mine. OOPS I circled the wrong it is the pinion cover. Just outside circle lower left. Sorry
Some years the actual 'adjuster plug' was serviced and for some years NOT.. There should be also a spring behind it and then also of course the flat adjuster hex plug nut. You might reach out to some of the re-builders. Older SPO Catalogs I have are certainly inconclusive regarding the 'plug'.
Thru '88 the 'adjust plug' #15 the OP mentions is part #'d as 7841283. From '89 forward it's mentioned only as being serviced with the gear kit (rack & pinion). I mentioned reaching out to some re-builders with the question OR if someone has a 'JUNK' rack maybe they would supply him with one. OP mentioned car being an '89. I mentioned SPO Catalogs seem to have conflicted info.
It seems that now the OP has posted back looking for the cover. Thru '88 it's part #'d as 7846884, serviced thru '88. Later years being serviced with gear. Again reach out to a re-builder OR just get a 'JUNK' one from someone with a rack. Actually the cover # looks to maybe do also most '93 and earlier GM FWD racks other than 'center take-off'.
Cap was used well beyond 88. Around 88/89 GM went away from dealers resealing rack and pinion due to lack of long term success. Starting late 88-89 corvette steering gear letter code was stamped in cover. After finding early Y car parts catalog ; the stub shaft bearing and seal kit is the same 88 + . The cap suggested fits that bore. If cap comes in quanity not individually, local dealer maybe reluctant to order part. Presently eBay dealer shows 4 available.
Your other easy option would be go to a "pick n pull" salvage yard with long flat screw driver and a hammer. Find GM rack & pinions and knock the cap off.

I looked on ebay and didn't find it. Can you give me a link? Mine is an 89 but everyone says they can't get it.
IDK what to tell you, other than head to.pick n pull and knock a cap off and see. If you deal with a independent repair shop, they may have a GM rack in their recycling pile to get a cap.
Is it a 2-turn rack or just a base ratio? If by chance a 2-turn it's for sure NOT a just 'toss it'! Just the cap shouldn't be a big deal.
It is a two turn. the main reason I want to keep it. I have 4 - 6 hours trying to find one. Thank You for your help. I haven't driven the Vette with the new 2 1/4 turn. May get that done this weekend.
