The car is all original and well maintained but there is a problem with the throttle body, when driving in town stopping and starting from stop lights, cannot start off normally it is very jumpy not smooth. I replaced the throttle cable with no help. I've taken the throttle body off the intake, cleaned it and lubed the bushings. After that it worked smoothly off the car. When back on the car the problem is back again. Is it possible that the return spring on the throttle body is hanging up and not sliding smoothly against it self? If I lube it with a Teflon lube it is ok for a while then back to jumpy acceleration again. Can the spring be replaced with a new one? I have been unable to find one.

Sometimes the butterflies need a little cleaning around the edges. Use a fine grit sandpaper and gently sand the throttle body around the edges. It could be hanging up so slightly.
A faulty throttle position sensor could also cause that symptom.
Check it, may need adjustment.
Check timing too.
Another piece, is the throttle stop screw still locked in place? If not, these can move from vibration, had this happen on my '87. Added a lock nut to keep in place and reset position.
