Just went to look at an 87 auto, would start and idled for about 5 minutes. Wouldn’t take any gas, would die. Is this what a bad fuel pump looks like? Are they on top of the tank? Could this just be old gas? Owner told me someone drove it just last week. Owner passed 7 months ago...
A bad pump, clogged pickup filter, clogged filter, sticking injectors, bad gas etc can cause that. The fuel pump unit does insert into the top of the tank.

Agreed, though I doubt it would be inje tors. If it drove a few days ago, I suspect there's some gunk built up. A little fuel system cleaner could solve that, if not all the other causes are inexpensive, readily available, and easily changed.
I agree on it not being injectors. Just wanted to mention that the L98 injectors are prone to needing service or replacement if the car has been sitting some time.

Bad MAFs also cause that exact problem. Ask me how I know.
I just had this problem last weekend. Turns out the rubber line connecting the fuel pump to the hard line had a crack in it. It would idle but die if you touched the gas pedal.
