Need to replace the windshield on a 93 Vette convertible. Here in Boston, j.n.phillips glass company said $500, but cancelled at the last minute saying they don't do Corvettes because of the aluminum trim around the windshield...said that the trim may be 'bonded on', and it could be damaged. Has anybody here had a windshield replaced? And were there any issues? Thanks...John...boston

Done about a dozen with safelite. Sometimes they balk and say it requires two people and they don’t have time. But they can handle it. You can do a lot of the work to get started by removing the weatherstrip and metal trim.
I removed the weatherstrip , dashpad , wipers, but he wanted me to leave the metal trim. He needs to set the window in with it. Mine was 295 cash.
No problems at all. Cosmo glass in Canoga Park CA.
Good Luck
My buddy just cancelled his insurance about a month ago......ill start looking for the trim, or try to remove it real carefully.....thank you for the help.....
I had mine replaced by safelite. Before taking it to a shop, I called several and asked the manager if they had experience with Corvettes. One said that he had done a number and knew how to do it. We carefully removed the trim and reused it.

For what it's worth. Since its free, you decide. To the extent you can and have the desire, search the forum for much older threads about windshield replacement. It was once understood that the windshield glass was actually a stressed part of the body, especially in convertibles. If the glass is not installed correctly (read by very experienced installer) the likelihood of it cracking when the body is twisted ( read RR track or speed bump type thing) is greatly increased.
I had my vert windshield done by an independent old school glass shop about 6 years ago. So far so good. They were able to reuse the un-obtainable trim. Took them a whole day. Good luck with safelight. Decided a few bucks over the do it in your driveway, yeah we can do it folks, was worth it. You decide, ymmv.
