Has anyone installed one on a c4 vette? My coworker told me once the cable breaks it will be so difficult to open the hood. Is that true? For those who installed the emergency cable, did you buy this as a kit or home made? Any pics of the set up? Thanks
I just installed emergency cables two weekends ago. Got them from Corvette Central. You can make your own for much less then buying from any of the Corvette vendors. but decided to pay the extra $20 to go with pre-made. Took less than 10 minutes to put on and route the way i wanted. Chances are will never need them, but gives peace of mind.
I used 100lb fishing leaders. Already have a loop at one end and stainless steel hook at the other. Plus they are coated black so they blend in. Each side can be easily reached over the wipers. Had to drill a small hole for you through the tall weatherstrip. A pack of 20 cost me $13 on Amazon. I will ship you 2 for free if you like. Just PM me your address.
At home depot, get 3/16 cable by the foot at 29 cents. 10 connectors are like 5 dollars. Just priced the stuff last week. you may file down the connector a little.
Good Luck!
My 86 hood wasn't opening always when I got it so I ordered a new cable. But the lazy part of me just install some diy safety releases and adjusted the current cable. That was years ago not that I use the car much. I just used cable and cable crimps at my local hardware store, a c-clamp worked good to crimp the end on the car.
