It's the engine number, plant, actual number, and code. It's mostly for warranty in case of engine in case of internal failure. I believe all the LT1s were built in Flint. The 3 letter code would application in case its a replacement engine without VIN stamp. All LT1s were vin P regardless the different versions were sent to the different plants. There maybe be a chart in parts catalog that lists the different codes. Code isn't required to look up parts.

Yes, 92 coupe Lt1, pulled the motor to do some updates. It has a pin drive for the optspark, not sure it's the original motor. Pretty sure deciphering ZAC would tell me what I need to know

ZAC is a '92 code. Certification Label date should be something later than 1/92

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. Glad i went through the car this winter. ran pretty good, but found a myriad of problems that would have taken the fun out of a long trip. Paid 5K for the car, looks like I'll have another 5 getting her into daily driver condition
