Default Help With Scanner for 1986 c4

Hey Guys, I really need some help here. I just bought a new red devil river 12 pin scanner. The problem: I have no idea how to use it. I could really use some good laymen instructions on how to set it up.
let me tell you what I have done so far after I received it. I downloaded aldl scan tool from the play store for my android phone. I did not want to invest in the other aldlandroid for 19.00 bucks as yet till I see how this works out for me.
So I went through the pre installed vehicle protocols I tried A007-clcc and also A028-L98 as I saw on the web that either of these two might work for my 1986 c4.Well as far as i could tell they did mot work. the screen on the phone showed a number or parameters but none filled in with information.
I made sure that the blutooth was connected and it said it was communicating but no info with the car running.

I saw something about creating a file but I do not know what that means. does that have anything to do with loads vehicle protocol from ALDL file?????
I just spent some hard earned dollars on this scanner and I would like to get it working to solve my terrible idle and some other problems.
I look forward to anyone who can help and please remember laymens term, just till I get the hang of things

Thanks
Tony

When you say you bought the scanner do you actually mean you bought the cable adapter?

I just bought the USB to 12 pin ALDL cable and downloaded TunerPro RT. Watched all of his you tube videos and got everything set up for my 88. Everything seems to be good and laptop says cable is functioning properly. However when I click the button to connect it does noT connect to read the ongoing data from the car.

Sorry cant give you much help but will be following this thread and can maybe get it to connect.

86 is a bit of a problem child when it comes to scanning at 8192 baud, but 160 baud should work fine with 10k resistor.

and this means what... I dont know how to use the dame thing in the first place...and what you just added is even more confusing. I realize that some people may have popped out of the womb knowing how to use one of these things, but, and i'm sure of this,
that the rest of us had to learn. if you could be a bit more explanatory I would really appreciate it very much. many thanks, at the very least you did respond, I've been waiting almost a week for some one to answer me.

According to the app description:

"ALDL Scan must be used in conjunction with the Bluetooth car adapter from 1320 Electronics. ALDL Scan is not compatible with other Bluetooth car adapters."

Try the A028-L98-LB9-85-88-160baud.aldl, or A059-L98-LB9-89-160baud.aldl as shown above with 10 k resistor switched on (if available on your adaptor).
