Hello,
As the title states Im planning the purchase an 80s C4.I did a frame on restore on a C3 and at that time I did a lot of research to find out all the flaws. Namely rust and where to look.I would greatly appreciate any information offered.
Thanks in advance,
Grand Cherokee

Welcome! There is a lot of help here. Stay tuned. I am sure others will chime in with advice on what to look for. I am new myself and have had my 89 vert for about 8 months. Of course I bought it just in time to put it away for a New England Winter. Welcome again.

First question is why are you targeting 80s C4s instead of something more at the end of the C4 generation? Each year has their own issues but the last of the C4s had most of the issues eliminated and many positive advances.

I have a 90 TPI A4 car and 92 LT1 6sp and like each one for different reasons. Search the forum, especially the “stickies” at the beginning of the C4 section and it will provide a lot of information.

The real key is to determine your plans for the car and a budget, then you can make a better determination of what to buy. Just remember it is a hobby and not an investment.

C4's don't rust in general. The frames are fully galvanized and most everything else is glass or aluminum. Problems tend to be with electrical goodies like auto climate control and the instrument clusters. They are for the most part reliable and easy to work on. Newer is generally better, but even the early 80s are pretty solid if taken care of.

Best to post the year you're interested in as each year seems to have some idiosyncrasies...thankfully as others have mention rust is not a problem with the chassis, something I heard can be really bad with C3s.
