Default Replacement convertible top recommendations

Hello everyone,

I recently picked up a 1991 C4 convertible. It’s in overall great shape for the age but just needs a bit of tlc to bring it back to 100%

The white vinyl top shows some wear and I want to replace it with black cloth with a back glass window with defrost.

what vendors have the best quality tops?
Its always nice to get a deal, but quality comes first.

And is the defroster on later models a bolt in type project for my 91? Or would it require a custom install?

Thanks for any advice

I had a local boat / Canvas guy do mine. He ordered the kit and installed it
$750 including tax but it's not glass in the back. Mine is not vinyl it's canvas

You can see the kit prices on line so my guy made money on the kit too and the instillation

I just ordered a top for my '91 from Willcox Corvette. It's a black cloth top made by Al Knoch. I got the headliner kit and new weatherstripping as well. I checked on the glass window, but it was more expensive and the defroster was not feasible... I think they used to make a kit but it's no longer available. The guys at Willcox know the story.

Default Convertible Top

I just had 1 installed by Lions Upholstery in Omaha. I bought a Robbins Brand top online from convertibletop.com. Lions are a Robbins dealer but said that I could get it online and save some money. I got a black Hartz stayfast canvas top. The piping on the seams is made of the same top material and looks better than the shiny piping that the cheaper ones use. I got 1 with a clear vinyl window. Looks great and I would recommend it. I don’t know about hooking up the defroster part. Be well. Kevin

This was right after it was installed.

Kee tops are considered best by most of the installers I've talked to. If you're having it installed, some installers won't install something they didn't order. More about $$$ than quality I suspect.

Just be aware that the glass window conversion does take up a little more space with the top down. That being said, I am still very happy I went the glass window / cloth to route. We just have to pack a little lighter for weekend getaways.

When I owned a C4, I had my top replaced with conversion kit on my 89, bought from Al Knocks makes the best when it comes to all years of Corvette's.

If you can find the conversion kit, make sure the tech doing the work, knows what there doing, other wise you can crack the gass, with no replacement glass.

I also has someone mentioned you loose storage room, and be careful when back out for trip, always soft items. Never force the lid closed, you can crack the glass.

I replaced all my seals on the top, 3M Adhesive removal was the best to get that glue out of it's tracks, and make sure you get all the glue, otherwise the new seals won't seat properly. You might want to also buy 3M rubber glue, but don't use it unless you really have to when the seals curve on the tracks.

Anyone that ever replaced there seals, they will tell you it looks easy, and quick, it's not, patients and don't rush, it look lousy and water leaks.

I replaced all the seals, used very little glue, and it took me 10 hours without a break for lunch.

Good luck. have fun!
