I agree. Very, very slightly, but yes, it wouldn't hurt, that's for sure.

Step 1 is finding a connection to the factory oval TB, which I have completed by using a 4" to 3.5" silicone coupler. The 4" size ovals out and clamps down perfectly. Next up is going to be getting the piping cut znd routed. I will be using 3" abs sewer pipe because, it's cheap, should have thermal stability, and black and non descript. 30bucks will get me the pipe, glue, and 45 degree bend I need. Conveniently, my local Lowe's has all that. So now I just need to Wait for my air filter to come in, hopefully this week.

Should have some more updates soon.

Got my filter and abs pipe today. I had intended to run the pipe as far out as possible and make the 45 degree turn tight to the rad shroud. Well, turns out part of the reason people haven't done this is its super tight in that area, the reinforcement for the hood is there and hits the pipe if you run it far e ough for the 45 to clear the shroud, let alone the 45 hitting. So the new plan is going to be a silicone 45, this should allow the hard pipe to be far enough back to not hit, and the silicone couple has enough flex to squish down.

I am also going to use this as an opportunity to improve the IAT placement. GM installed it at the throttle body for manufacturing ease, we don't need to worry about that so we will locate it closer to the air filter for a more accurate reading. Will use an iat extension to make the new iat location far closer to the filter.

Post some pics when you get closer to getting everything put together. I enjoy projects like these.

Spent a bit of time in the garage tonight and got it put together. Haven't fabbed up a heat shield yet, but it should be pretty easy to do, the hardest part is going to be getting measurements, tough to do with the hood closed, haha.

A few things I've learned. There is really not much room between the rad shroud and hood, I suspect this was a big driver of intake design. My design does actually hit at the silicone coupler, but it's soft so there's no issue. If I was doing it over again, I would use a smaller cone filter, my filter fits, but it did make for a bit of a pain to do. The other option would be to reduce the pipe diameter, which if one were making a mass produced intake would be the ticket.

I don't expect this picked up any sizeable Performance boost. That said, it's a washable filter, makes the cool suckling noise of an intake, and it does feel like throttle response is a bit more eager. For about 80 bucks, I'm satisfied, and I have enough abs pipe left over to swap out the intake silencer on my truck too.

Think most the ls guys that claim xx from a filter really get it from the tune.
If not their tuners name would be mudd. GM knows what they are doing. no way an element adds 30+to the tire lol

It's easy to check; hook up a scan tool, go to WOT and look at manifold pressure. Pull filter/housing....whatever and do it again. Compare numbers. If they're the same, no filter in the world is going to help.
