Default upgrade exhaust

After replacing the exhaust (going to Borla or Corsa) on my 94', I am wondering is there any additional modifications (tuning, computer work) to the engine that should be made to maximize performance? Thanks

Not particularly. If you did a full system with headers then sure but if you're just doing a cat back its close enough the ecm will compensate.

If I went headers also, what would that include on the "engine tuning" end?

Exhaust isn't going to make any power on an LT1. No tuning needed. Exhaust will give you sound, and looks.

Not much, or no more than you might get from an optimized tune on a stock engine. *I* wouldn't bother.

I'm pretty sure that even with headers, a MAF-equipped car like yours should be able to accommodate any increased airflow without needing to be recalibrated.

If your 94 LT1 is stock .... your "stock dual exhaust" was non restrictive to begin with so the only thing you will change is the sound. My suggestion is to retain the stock cat back exhaust and spend your money on long tube headers. You'll get a lower deeper sound and no adjustment to the tune will be required until you change the cam.

yep that is the sound I’m looking for. I want to keep the drone down as much as possible.

I have a Corsa on my '95 and a Borla on my '96. Both without any computer tuning done and they both run fine.

They sound different than stock, but there are lots of ways to make the sound different such as headers, mufflers, eliminators, removing cats, etc.

If there is any performance gain, it is minimal. Like others have said, it will mostly be for a different sound or appearance.

Good luck.

If possible, could you do a quick video of the cars, side-by-side with the engine running? I'd love to be able to hear the difference.

Thanks for the consideration!

Thanks for all the replies. I think I am going to go with Long tube headers.

I forgot it was an LT1. Yea. No real gains to be had there other than sound unless its pretty well built up.

I put a B&B 3" on my 96 LT1. It was maybe a bit lower tone. That's about it. Like others have said looks and a little tone wise. I still have the factory 96 LT1 exhaust sitting in the barn for that car. Not the best money ever spent on a car that's for sure.

If you haven't already done this, perform the easy mods of opening up your stock air intake/filter box, and the Throttle Body coolant bypass. Both are easy inexpensive mods even if they only added 1 HP.
