Ok, I know how important it is that I have a locking gas cap on my car... I've seen many of you say it's a must... Do you just get the Autolite special, or is there a good cap that won't break the first couple times I use it, leaving me stuck, to hack the thing off?? Thanks.

Got a Stant at Autozone. Been over 4 years andstill rocking
I have used a Stant locking cap for over 13 years now w/ no problems...
Now you have to consider though, I rarely drive my cars and the one has only seen about 10 tanks of gas :D
Still, no problems w/ 'em and now that you reminded me, I will pick one up for the 93 ;)
p.s. Stant supplies the caps for the emissions machines 'round here -FWIW
Don't think its the stealing from you ... its the adding ( sugar ) :mad
And yes , it does happen ....
When you least expect it - you're elected!!

Why is it so important to have a locking gas cap? Are there that many gas theives running around out there?
Ya, just way too many people who get jealous that you own a vette and take it out by vandalizing the car :(! I got my gas cap at Pepboys, don't know the brand, but I've had no problems with it.
Oh....I see. Mine came with a locking gas cap and I think it's kind of a pain. I keep my car garaged so I was thinking about switching to a regular gas cap...
Before you toss that locking gas cap ask your self "do I ever park my Vette in a public place?".
I've (apparently) not had my car tampered with while it was at home; but did come out of the pub one night and find the gas access lid open, and it was parked on the street!
I bought mine at Auto Zone for 10 dollars.IT gives me a comfert feeling as far as foreign objects in my tank.
Same thing here, bought mine from Autozone and its been great. Much rather have some good protection rather than that naked feeling that someone at any time could easily load your tank with sugar (or whatever the case may be)
I know it, I had a buddy, who got a bag of MARBLES dumped in his tank. He had NO CLUE for about 5 months, and kept dumping money into different things, troubleshooting! Finally, they dropped his tank, and found all the marbles... Luckily none of them were big enough to make it into his line, but enough to roll around, and plug it up at the WORST possible times!! SO, I definitely don't want that to happen... He found out later it was his 5 year old neighbor, thought that was a "shute" for marbles and dumped them all in!! Little putz.
Wouldn't we all love to catch some coward a-hole in the act of vandalism like this? Oh the azz whoopin' that would be doled out :mad :cuss :yesnod:

I tried the one from AutoZone, but I took it back because whenever I stopped I smelled gas.The reason was that it was a vented cap.I think the stock cap is also vented but must be at a higher pressure.I did notice that whenever I went to fill the tank, with the stock cap,you could hear the air escaping especially on a hot day. With the AutoZone one, nothing.
