Default So just a quick question.

So how hard is it to ditch my Doug nash 4+3 , and convert it to a regular automatic? I know its expensive, but really so is finding a another Doug nash that actually engages to OD.
I've taken her to a transmission guy, he says it's working, but it shakes like hell as soon as I engage OD. So my wife whom can't drive a manual wants an automatic. Any thoughts?

I did that to my 84 decades ago because I wanted to turn the car into a bracket car. I did it in my garage without too much difficulty. You need to start with a FSM and a source for parts. Back then, parts were available new at the dealership. A forum search will help too.

Thank you very much for the information, I found pretty nice engine from an 86 with an automatic transmission already attached for 1500. But before I paid the money I wanted to know if I was insane.

Insane? Nah. But what you're talking about definitely isn't sane either. Take your car, sell it, and buy an auto. Autos are cheaper, and you're already planning to spend 1500 on a power train, plus whatever extra stuff you need, plus possibly labor.

Of course the obvious answer is to buy her an automatic and you keep the manual .
