Yep, that's perfectly fine for your oil temp. Your coolant temp at that speed should be lower IMO. My '84 coolant temp is always less than my 195* thermostat on the highway regardless of the temperature outside. Often it's usually in the upper 170's-lower 180's. I would consider pulling your radiator and cleaning it out (through the fins) as well as your AC condenser. What's the condition of the water pump and thermostat? Are they original? Is your air dam in place (especially the center section)? How old is the anti-freeze? I think your cooling system may need a little TLC. But your original question....oil, I have read that the Mobile 1 synthetic is supposed to hold up to around 300* (not sustained of course) I've had my Mobile 1 synthetic get in the 240's (in town, light to light, hot as hell outside), I don't like that even if it's supposed to be ok, I plan on adding an oil cooler for one of my winter projects! Maybe put that on your list too! But 220*, forget about it, not hurting anything! Good luck 👍
Thanks Guys, I'm beginning to think Idiot lights are better than gauges for OCD people like me. Always watching the gauges climb and "waiting for the other shoe to drop". Thanks for your service car addict! When did you serve? 1967-1970 Vietnam for me.
Worry when the coolant temps get to the 240-250F range, you have iron heads, so you have a bit more leeway but if you get over 250, pull over and let it cool down.
Thanks stew, I never looked at it that way------makes sense to me.
