My 1996 LT4 Engine makes a howling sound. Is this normal? I was showing the car to perspective buyer and this turned him off to the sale.
Ive had the car 3 years and it always made that sound and is trouble-free.
Any ideas? Is that the sound of an LT4?

 

Does it make the howling sound only when the car is moving or does it do it when the car is standing still and the engine is idling?

 

Both. I guess louder when its started and idling. Kinda drowned out when its moving even at low speeds.

 

OK so it not air flow from the car moving down the road. So when you start it up and open the hood .....does the howling seem to come from the engine?
Generally howling is produced by something rotating the air (as opposed to gear wine) so I'm thinking the fan blades on the alternator or perhaps the accessory belt?

Oh sorry, in answer to your most basic question: No, that is not the sound of an LT4 engine.

Check the intake coupler and see if it is resonating.
