Default Whats normal temperature range

On a 75 to 80 degree day with low humidity temp between speeds 35-50 reads 198-205. At traffic light jumps up to 220-229. Running 180 degree thermostat. Cooling fan kicks in a 231,Is this normal or should i be concerned? Original engine with Xram 156,000 miles, timing slightly advanced, new radiator and water pump.

As mentioned quite normal with the fan set to kick in at 230F, have you considered a lower temp fan switch? say 190F to make use of the 180F stat.
What year C4 do you have? there were improvements in cooling from 88 on from one single fan and optional booster fan 84-87 to two smaller staged fans 88 on.

Don't forget "EVERY C4 OFFERS A FREE HIGHWAY CLEANING SERVICE" .....
Some of the leaves and such get sucked up in and over the a/c condenser and "rest turning everything to compost" between the condenser and radiator.
Eventually restricting airflow and causing overheating. needing the air filter assembly and radiator cover removal to clean all the "compost" out between the radiator and a/c condenser...............
I have a mesh screen to stop offering a free highway cleaning service, is placed between the x frame and air filter down to the air dam.
That way i just have to brush the leaves out by hand every now and then, to keep the airflow good to the condenser and radiator.

You can find ready to fit mesh screens on Ebay for a price....
