Hey guys,
I ordered one of those jack a vette inserts to jack up the rear of my vette. One of the guys here asked if it was ok to support the rear of the car on such a small surface area of the pumpkin. Is it ok to use this? Is the Danna 44 an aluminum housing or cast iron? Thanks in advance.
It's cast aluminum. I have a jacking insert. I never had any trouble with cracking the casting. Once you get it up high enough, you want to place jackstands in the recommended places.
Thanks Greg,
Do you have the insert from Corvette central. It appears to have plastic or rubber on top, is this correct? It's a little pricey at $50, but it will definately be worth it. I cringe everytime I have to jack up the rear of the car by using GM's "jacking points".
I cringe, too. I have been planning on making some pads out of old tires to place between the frame and the jackstands to minimize damage from the stands. I thought I would cut pieces out of the tires and attach them to 2 x 4's and cut out holes on the bottom for the jack stands.
Another method that was brought up by Mr. Mojo is to use a four by four about 3 feet long and place it between the spare tire carrier and the fllor jack. I have done this and it works really good and you don't have to crawl under to place your Corvette Central insert.
