If you were on a long road trip (week or two) and your optispark failed, what replacement would you have shipped to your hotel(DIY)/dealer(pay someone) for repair. This scenario assumes you don't have time to send your original in to the Opti Doc, or others, for rebuild.

Prob buy one local slap it in there and figure out a solid replacement when I get home.
Petris or sac city......Yours will eventually fail so why not pick up one and hope you don't have to use it on the road trip. You could hold on to it and install in the future or have the opti dr fix your oem one and sell the petris or sac city unit
My 96 LT1 never left me stranded. I was driving it with an opti spark I thought was replaced by the Chevrolet dealer at the time the water pump was done. That was at around 76 K miles. So when it had over 105 K miles it would act up some time. I replaced the coil thinking that was the trouble. It would still get up and go to over 150 mph during this time. Sometimes it would buck a little under lighter loads. Like the auto trans was shifting in and out of over drive then clear up. The opti had so much play in it that it was firing on multiple cylinders randomly when this happened. The dealer instead of installing a new opti when I had them do the water pump just did the pump and charged me for everything. The car still had the factory unit. It kept right on driving though. It wasn't until close to the 100 k mark it started acting funny. Don't know about the ones made today but the factory one in my 96 really lasted a long time.
It went to the track at home and it went to Bowling Green to the NCM and Beech Bend twice.
All the big trips when it was over 70 k miles. From Southern Maryland to Bowling Green , Kentucky and back twice without a hitch.
Advance or autozone. Lifetime warranty and there's more of those stores around so you've got a better chance of being stranded for less time.
I agree.
My waterpump went out and took out the optispark with it. I bought both from autozone because they had them in stock and offered lifetime warranties. I installed both and the car started right up and has run flawlessly since. Free replacements are a big deal when you have the ability to install the parts yourself.
My 95 ImpalaSS went over 200K miles on the original. Driven daily in northeast Ohio (winter too) and several trips to Chicago, Arkansas, Toronto. Replaced the cap once and at the first sign of the water pump weeping I switched to electric....must have been a 1%r. If you are stuck away from home, the words "in stock" are king...get what you can get.
In a nice area and decide to make a short stay of it? Get what you really want.
Thanks for the optispark input. I am not having any problems but after reading all the scare stories about them, I wanted to have a plan when I get the chance to complete the last leg of my route 66 road trip. What I learned was valuable. I had no idea that Auto Zone or Advance auto parts stores carried these items!! Problem solved.

I have two C4’s with the Opti spark. Never a hiccup on either car. One is a 6 speed and the other is Auto. Never a trouble except my knock sensor needed replacing due to sitting for years before I bought it. The owner died and his daughter didn’t want to let it go. It only has 40,000 miles on it. It’s a 95 Auto car. My 6 speed is a 94 and has only 60,000 miles on it. Both cars are a ton of fun to drive. I take them to Sturgis Bike Week ( I live there ) every year. The crowds love them.
Go with an AC Delco. A few years ago I went to Corvettes Carlisle and a half-shift U-joint blew up in Ohio on a Saturday night. I was driving The Ghost the next day, and I didn't have a press. If you carry all tools (don't forget the puller) you should be able to DIY it.
