i have a 89 hatchback i just ordered a new set of goodyear tires
first set i have put on since i have owned it. are they any precautions
i should be aware of since i'm having a local tire shop put them on?
So what is the tire of choice for C4 daily and weekend drivers? Will be changing the original set of Goodyear ZRs in the spring and have heard good and bad about almost every brand on the market.
If you are looking for a "performance" tire, the GSCs are at the bottom of the list.
Michelin Pilots are nice tires, but EXPENSIVE.
Ive heard som good things about Kumos...decent price AND performance.
You might browse http://www.tirerack.com for tires.
If you dont want to order from them, but like thier prices, SEARS will price match and Sears orders MANY tires from the Tire Rack
i have goodyear tires on my vette. i have had no problem with them. i replaced the origional tires on the 86 2 years ago. i have them on my trans am, like them too. i have them on my avalanche too, no problem with them either. i guess it depends on how you drive your car. i dont spend much time on a race track so i dont know how good they are there but they work great on public roads.
Screw the Goodyear tires. I'd get in no specific order:
Michelin Pilot Sport
BF Goodrich Gforce KD
Bridgestone Pole Position
Bridgestone RE-71, RE930
Kumho
Firestone SZEP
all before I even considered another badyear tire. They are terrible new, and worse than the tires Ford put on Model Ts when they are over a few years old. Harder than hockey pucks.
The New F1 tires cone in three flavors. The only one that looks even worth a look is the F1 GS-Fiorano. This is the real performance version that the exotics use and NOT the one the vettes are going to get unfortunately. The others are all weather compromises like the POS GSC was 20 years ago when it came out.
Don't sugar coat it, 92Tripleblack.. ..If you've already bought the Goodyear's' be happy...otherwise check out the Kumho's at Tire Rack...a lot of folks have them and I have never heard a bad word about them...when you see the price difference between the GSC's and the Kumho's you will really sit up and take notice !!!!...good luck..
I had Goddyears on a Trans Am and they were like rocks. Put Kumho's on put 90 Vete and love them. Had Coopers when I got it and didn't like them at all, hard. All ratings on Kumho's are as good or better then other tires and a lot cheaper. Send the Goodyears back and get Kumho's.
I've run the Kumhos and I would recommend them to anyone. :yesnod: A great tire for wet and dry traction plus at only $112 each what could you say bad about them

Aah come on 92 triple black don't hold back tell us how you really feel.
I agree with Tripleblack...although not quite as vehemently. I have the Goodyear F1's...I had to replace the two back tires this summer because the sidewalls literally separated!!! As I wasn't thinking clearly at the time, I replaced them with F1's again. The important thing to this little story is that the F1's that were on the car only had 8,000 miles on them when they started falling apart. I blame some of this on the low profile and my rough road, but next time (soon) I'm going Kuhmos.
My '88 came with like new GY Eagles nearly 3yrs ago; they still have about half the tread, hook up well (1.83sec best short time) and handle very well on highway and street.
I'm going with GYs again, just not sure which ones.
When I picked my '95 up, it had brand new Goodyears put on it that weekend because the factory good years were dry-cracked... I wouldn't have put them on, in most cases, but, now that they are there, where I put about 2k a year on my cars, I think they'll last a while.. Unless, after I pick up my new rims, I get someone local to buy mine and they pay for the new set :)
