Which muffler Would give my 1984 Corvette a nice Growling sound but would also allow you to hold a conversation inside the car looking for something that is a direct fit Hope to hear from someone soon
Corsair is a safe bet to meet your expectations. However they are a little pricey, really like them on my 86, tho. Also be aware that the 84 and 85 models have a different type connection at the cat to the rear pipes and mufflers than 86 and later. Spend some time.under your car and check out this rear of cat to exhaust junction before you purchase or order a cat back system.
Of course a good exhaust shop can make anything work, but if dyi that connection could be a problematic.
I put the stock Walker Sound FX, I tried the deletes but it was too loud for neigbors. I went beck to OEM and they now are sounding better, but it took 40000 miles to break in!

I have these on my '90. They are on the quiet side with very little rumble at idle.
How much do you want to spend? How much work can you do yourself, ie: cut off old muffler, can you weld? or do you plan to take it to a shop?
All of this makes a difference. If you want to spend $200.00 or less, I would suggest something like a generic turbo muffler.... You can get 2 for less then $100.00 then you may have some pipe and tips to come up with, along with installation if you cannot do it yourself.
For a little more, purchase a used LT1 exhaust, and hangers. (they are stainless and seem to last forever) its 2.75 piping...... But you would probably need an exhaust shop cut and connect the exhaust downpipes to the LT1 system.
Purchase a complete exhaust system such as corsa, magnaflow, etc. Probably around $1,000.00 plus installation.
I really like the sound of the muffler eliminators on my 84, but have no idea who made them. Not too loud inside, but then again, I am not much for conversation when driving my Vette. I look at it this way.....if I find it too loud at some point in the future, all I need to do is weld in a couple mufflers.
