Default Does your rear end twitch

. . . when you drive in therain. Iwas coming to work today and it would almost get sideways when I hit a good size puddle, so I slowed down to about 55. It then proceeded to twitch as I was driving along. It felt like one wheel then the other would loose traction for a split second.

I love the way it recovers after hydroplaning in the big puddles

What kind of condition are you back tires in? Mine was doing that really bad, when I got home I looked and both of the rear tires had the the inside halves almost slick. It turned out I was hydroplaning when I would run across section of roadway that had a layer of water on it. Now if it wasn't rainig hard and the road was wet it wouldn't do it but if it was raining really hard then it would ...As long as water was standing a little on the road it would hydroplane very easy about 45 to 50 mph.

To answer your post title..."only after I eat Tex-Mex... :bb

You car's behavior sounds like the day I had to drive home on DRs and hit some puddles.

Check your tread depth and inflation.

Tread is good and inflation is correct. We just get water by the inches down here.

My '86 did that on the Bridgestones until it twitched so hard I spun out going straight at 55. Put on the Firestone Firehawks (closed the barn door after the horse was gone) and no more twitching at all.

If the tires are good and the obvious has been ruled out.... Read the following :

I had an '85 which had really bad characteristics in the rain and was fairly easy to peel out when it was dry. Took a look at the ujoints and the passenger side and drive shaft ujoints were bad and giving some play.

You may want to check them out to see if they're tight or loose (Jack the rear of the car up with the car in park or in gear, and move each of the rear tires clockwise and counter clockwise. If it seems like there is some play with your half shaft, then your ujoints are gone. Also, while you're under the car, grab the drive shaft and move it clockwise and counterclockwise. If there's play in it, be sure to replace those u-joints as well).

Also keep in mind that if the bushings or shocks go bad, it would cause undesireable characteristics as well.

My rear suspension was very twitchy. Took it to a local Chevy dealer, rear tie rod ends, also called toe rods. It would twitch around just about everytime I loaded/unloaded the rear suspension, due to the change in toe due to the worn end.
So I ordered the Heavy Duty Toe Rod setup from Vette Brakes, along with the poly adjustable smart struts and urethane bushing kit. Planning to install next weekend after everything arrives, hope it's nice and tight after that!
