It's actually quite a nice car, so I'm not expecting problems. But would rather be prepared.
I've made several cross country trips and never had a problem. But, that said, it IS a 30 year old car, and sh*t happens. So, piece of mind, I recon beats the heck outta waiting for a tow truck, me thinks!

Yes, very confident that I'm over-prepared but better over than under. I always have roadside assistance, a credit card and 10 days off work if things turn south...
I think only an thin open end 10 mm wrench will fit between the battery cover and the top of the side valance. Youtube how to change a battery on a C4 to see why.
Enjoy the car, I certainly enjoy mine.
People. Pretty soon the plane won't be able to get off the ground from all the added tools that are "needed". I repeat, leave all the tools at home and bring a cellphone and a AAA membership. That's it. The odds are, you are going to need these two items regardless of how many tools you bring along. You are not going to find a hose, tire, battery, filter etc. lying along the side of the road. If needed, pick up the required tool items at the same time you pick up your replacement part. If the hoses look good, tires have no cracks or bulges, battery turns over and starts the engine and the car looks generally sound, then you should be able to hit the road with confidence. You would be far more likely to suffer a major failure like a wheel bearing or u-joint and I don't think they make a small enough hydraulic press to fit in a carryon bag.
