I would be very surprised if TSA will let you have that in a carry on bag. You will most likely have to have that in a checked bag.

I did the research. Excepting hammers, hatchets, axes and bladed hand tools, you can pretty much bring any hand tool under 7 inches.

Taken directly from the TSA's website under "What can I bring?"...

I've made several cross country trips and never had a problem. But, that said, it IS a 30 year old car, and sh*t happens. So, piece of mind, I recon beats the heck outta waiting for a tow truck, me thinks!

Yes, very confident that I'm over-prepared but better over than under. I always have roadside assistance, a credit card and 10 days off work if things turn south...

add an 8 mm and 10 mm open end wrench in case you need to replace the battery.

Man, I know a guy from Austin with your same name. I got excited for a minute but looks like not you based on location...

I ended up getting a gator socket and an adjustable wrench, while not ideal, should work in a pinch.

I think only an thin open end 10 mm wrench will fit between the battery cover and the top of the side valance. Youtube how to change a battery on a C4 to see why.
Enjoy the car, I certainly enjoy mine.

People. Pretty soon the plane won't be able to get off the ground from all the added tools that are "needed". I repeat, leave all the tools at home and bring a cellphone and a AAA membership. That's it. The odds are, you are going to need these two items regardless of how many tools you bring along. You are not going to find a hose, tire, battery, filter etc. lying along the side of the road. If needed, pick up the required tool items at the same time you pick up your replacement part. If the hoses look good, tires have no cracks or bulges, battery turns over and starts the engine and the car looks generally sound, then you should be able to hit the road with confidence. You would be far more likely to suffer a major failure like a wheel bearing or u-joint and I don't think they make a small enough hydraulic press to fit in a carryon bag.
